Basque hospitality on Sumner Street since 1901
Pyrenees Cafe opened its doors at 601 Sumner Street in 1901, first serving travelers and immigrants near Bakersfield's train station. It later evolved from a Basque boarding house into the family-style restaurant Bakersfield knows today.
In the Basque tradition, food is more than sustenance—it's a celebration of community, culture, and connection. Our family-style dinners bring people together around generous portions of authentic recipes passed down through generations.
From our legendary steaks to our signature clam chowder, every dish tells a story of the Pyrenees mountains and the proud people who call them home. When you dine with us, you're not just having a meal—you're experiencing a piece of Basque culture.
